As the semester is coming to a close, the brothers of Phi Delta Chi agree: this has been another successful year for our fraternity, and yet another great year to be a brother. You don’t know this, but the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences chapter of Phi Delta Chi is the only chapter, of 77, that has a white border around their jerseys. This marking distinguishes us from the enormity of more than 50,000.
Our brothers work hard. Especially brothers like Alex Goh who, besides winning most involved brother of the year, was elected to Phi Lambda Sigma President and APhA-ASP Membership Vice President. Craig Laing, our worthy chief counselor elect, is also a member of APhA, PLS, Rho Chi, and SGA. In addition, our brother Travis Lemon is currently running for 5th year class president. Alex, Craig, and Travis are great examples of what we all believe in; the advancement of our community and more importantly, the science of pharmacy and chemistry.
Our chapter is also known for having very active alumni. For instance, on one of the first warm days we had this spring, our whole chapter was invited to a barbeque at an amazing piece of property overlooking the scenic Hudson River. A brother who graduated in the 1980’s invited the younger members to his home, not only to catch up, but to discuss important topics of our day. We agreed that the future of our country is going to be very different than what we see now, and it is our role to lead the profession of pharmacy.
August 8th marks an important event for our chapter; our Grand Council is headed to Buffalo, New York. This is the event where our brothers meet, not only to grow together, but more importantly to help one another and continue to advance the science of pharmacy. This is the place where our brothers will discuss new topics in pharmacy with people from schools without “pharmacy” in the name. Where else can you see a collegiate provide continuing education to a registered pharmacist?
This semester brought five new brothers to our exclusive group. Being a new brother brings new responsibilities. Brothers like Gregory Gambino have an important job, such as keeping in touch with others from the all the pharmacy schools in the north east. Being a Phi Delta Chi brother definitely encourages you to be more involved, more active, and a better pharmacist.
